I Miss You Dearly

Today I thought of you two and started to cry.

Dear Mary Jane,

The anniversary of your death is approaching.  I can't believe it's been a year since I said good bye to you in the hospital.  This is the first year in many that I haven't bought any Christmas socks.  It was a funny little tradition I started with you.

I miss you so much.  Up until about the last 6 months of your life, we would talk all the time.  The boys and I would call you up and bring you Frosty's from Wendy's.  Or we would surprise you with a visit.

Sunday dinners are different without you.  There are many years of memories of sitting down together and breaking bread on Sunday nights.

Halloween was different this year also.  So many years you would be outside Andy's house helping pass out candy.  This year it was Wes, Andy, Jeanette, Todd, and I.  Still there was a void since you weren't there.

I miss you dearly Mary Jane.  I love you.
Love, Traci

Dear Roger,

Next Thursday, it's going to be 2 years since you've been gone.  It was sudden, no one was prepared to say good bye so soon.

You were in my life for 16 years.  There was many winters you would drive me to work so I could get there safely.

You were my Santa for those 16 years.  If people asked me, "Do you believe in Santa?"  My answer would be yes, I do believe in Santa because I knew him personally.  The boys still can't visit with Santa because you were their special Santa.

We still eat dinner together on Sundays.  Andy or I take turns cooking the food.  It's a tradition that I hope the boys will carry on when they are adults.  We have lots of memories from those dinners.

I know you are watching over your grandkids up in Heaven.  Nick is becoming more social.  It's a great feeling watching him grow up  He still reads books but will talk with his peers.  He's now in Boy Scouts and DeMolay.  He also started Kung Fu.  Will is still Will.  He would still drive you crazy since he is just like you.  He'll have memories of that red chair when he thinks of you.

We all miss you dearly.  We all love you.  Thank you for being our Santa.
Love,
Traci

A Reflection of This Year's Thanksgiving

I haven't written on this blog since October since I've been focusing on my cooking blog.

Today is Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is a day to reflect on the blessings God has given you. Those blessings may be small or big.

I've been blessed this past year.  In May, I turned 40 years old.  Hubby took me on a Disney Cruise because my goal for my 40th birthday was to go and do something new.  I did both while on the cruise.  First of all, I can now say I've been to the Bahamas even for a little bit of time.  Second of all, I can say I've swam with dolphins.

Other blessings is watching Know-it-All grow socially.  He transitioned over to Boy Scouts in February and then joined DeMolay in August.  When he first joined Boy Scouts, he would barely talk to the other boys.  Now he knows different boys names and will talk to the boys at the meetings and at school.  On Tuesday I went to his school for their Thanksgiving feast.  It warmed my soul to see him interacting with his classmates.

Crazy One is another blessing even though he is my messy child.  He is smart and musically talented.  He can listen to a song a few times and can sing the lyrics and has the melody down pat.

Hubby is another blessing.  He loves the whole family unconditionally.

Barack Obama and Brick Walls - 31 Writing Challenge (Day 2)

My 31 Writing Challenge is writing about my life.  The good, the bad, the sad, and the funny.  Stories come from a variety of places - students, Hubby, and children.

My students provide me with entertainment. You never know what they are going to do or say. Sometimes I have to give them a quizzical look because of the crazy things they say.

The other day was one of those days. We were working on fixing a test and then writing a paragraph.

One decided I needed a moveable wall because I share the room. The other teacher and I have a good relationship so a moveable wall is not necessary. Then he decided they needed to build a brick wall down the middle of the room. He made it sound like it would be an easy task when in fact it would be a hard job.

Meanwhile the other student complained about the fact that students had to take tests. He was going to contact Barack Obama himself in order to complain. I guess Barack Obama would make a declaration saying that no student needs to take any tests EVER again.

Moments like these make the long days teaching students bearable.

Even with the crazy conversations, the students did get their work done.

Here are some pictures from the first of October.  The sunrise picture does not show the true colors of the sunrise.

It was truly gorgeous!

My delicious coffee I got on the way home from work.  Peppermint Lattes are absolutely yummy!

Have a great day!

Introduction - 31 Writing Day Challenge

I've decided to try the 31 day writing challenge.  During the challenge I'm going to write about my daily life.

Before I can begin, I need to introduce myself so you know where the stories are coming from.

Hello!  I'm Traci.  I've been married for almost 16.5 years.  We've been together since Sweetest Day of 1997 so our 18th dating anniversary is coming up this month.

Hubby and I have 2 boys - Crazy One and Know-it-All.  Crazy One is 10 years old and in the fourth grade.  You never know what he's going to say or do.  He loves the color orange, Storm Troopers, Legos, and Hot Wheels.  Crazy One loves to read funny books.  He does not like fashion at all.

Know-it-All is 12 years old and in the 6th grade.  He loves to read!!!!  He loves to learn new facts and share those facts with the rest of the family.  During the past year, he's started Kung Fu and transitioned from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.  He has also joined DeMolay.  Hubby and I have watched him blossom especially during the past six months.

Now onto me.  I've been a special education teacher for the past fifteen years.  This is my sixteenth year.  Boy do I have stories from my many years of teaching special education.  This year I've got fifth graders for the second year.  Life is never dull when you are a teacher.

I enjoy taking photographs.  Sometimes it can drive people crazy with how many photos I can take.  Hubby plays hi low with how many pictures I take on outing.  When we went on the Disney Cruise for 3 days I took 5000 pictures.  I have written blog posts about the Disney Cruise.

Oh, I LOVE Disney especially Walt Disney World!  I have written blog posts about our 2014 trip.  Please check those out.

My favorite Disney princess is Belle and my favorite movie is The Lion King.  I'm known for singing the song "Hakuna Matata" to my students.  For some reason, I haven't done that this year yet.

You'll discover more about me and my life during the next 31 days!

Apple Fest Part 1

For the past few years, I've gone to the annual Apple Fest at a local farm.  I go every year but who I go with changes from year to year.  This year it was only Hubby and Crazy One since Know-it-All was camping.

One of Know-it-All's advisors from Boy Scouts gave me tickets for the Apple Fest.

Here are some pictures from the Apple Fest:

The University of Dayton had a river mobile truck.  So we checked it out.  The truck was a mobile educational display about the water around our area.

Standing on our area

After we checked out the river mobile truck, we went into the educational center.  The farm is also a preschool so there is plenty of educational experiences.

Playing on the rocking cow
Since it was lunchtime, Hubby and I immediately got food to eat.  He had a brat.  Crazy One had a hot dog.  I had a grilled cheese sandwich.

Crazy One enjoyed playing in their dirt/ tunnel area.  He got SO dirty.

We went over to the cider press area because the advisor was volunteering at the cider press.  Even though it was not ready for Crazy One to press apples, we enjoyed drinking fresh pressed apple cider.  Crazy One also enjoyed seeing the therapy dogs that were in the next booth.

Waiting for the cider press
Since we had to wait a few minutes for the cider press, Hubby and I decided to walk around a little bit.  Crazy One didn't want us to walk too far away from the cider press.
Trying fresh apple butter

Finally it was time to press some apples.  Boy was Crazy One excited!

They have a kids' activity area that was a great place for Crazy One.  He enjoyed playing with the corn hole game.  Actually he just kept throwing the bean bags.  He got his Pikachu hat that he kept getting compliments for.

Meeting Johnny Appleseed

We continued to have a great time at the Apple Fest.  I will share those adventures with you on another day.

Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars

Today we went to the Apple Fest.  This is an annual event that I look forward to every September.

This year I went with Hubby and Crazy One since Know-it-All is camping with Boy Scouts.  Actually one of the advisors from Boy Scouts gave me two tickets for the Apple Fest.

There is a herb garden that we enjoy looking at.  Actually I enjoy taking photographs in the garden.  While I was taking photographs today, one of the volunteers told me that there was monarch butterfly caterpillars on one of the plants.  When I looked, I saw at least 10 caterpillars.

I enjoyed taking photographs of the caterpillars.  Enjoy the photographs.  :)

Have a glorious weekend!
